Screened is about the mortality and the fragility of the human body. I was interested in the use of X-rays because of the aesthetic quality and how these pictures interact with light. There is a variation between clearly visible figurative X-rays and more abstract images. Photos of the outside of a body and X-rays are played after one another. The tempo of the video is determined by the sound of a heart monitor. As the video progresses, the sound plays faster and becomes more menacing. The protagonist in this experimental video is me.
The title ‘Screened’ can be interpreted in several ways. A screening is an investigation into a specific disease/pre-stage of a disease. A screen is a way to display something.
